Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Was Glad to Read this Year

Top Ten Tuesday banner

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl wherein each week bloggers list out their Top Ten.

This week’s prompt is a Thanksgiving/Thankful freebie and like last year, I am going over the books of this year that have made me so grateful to be able to read them! Here they are, in no particular order:

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)Thank you for being a book filled with Slytherins being the best at their ambitions, whatever they may be! I do love morally ambigious characters a lot, and you were full of them, and you brightened the start of my year with it!

Call Down the Hawk (Dreamer, #1)Thank you for letting me deal with my anxiety regarding spin-offs! Also for proving you can still find ways to surprise a reader in a spin-off with new things in the world. Also thanks for exposing Declan in all his complicated quirks. Sorry, I will write a review for you soon!

Sorcery of ThornsThanks for being another amazing and unique fantasy novel, and being all Tall Girl Represent! Thanks for giving me Fullmetal Alchemist and Black Butler nostalgia! Thanks for my bi boi Nathaniel, too!

Song of the Crimson FlowerThanks for being such a gentle and wholesome sorta hate-to-love romance! Thanks for inspiring me to make something, and still giving me a lot of inspiration.

Sword and Pen (The Great Library, #5)Thanks for being such a good conclusion to an awesome journey and for giving all my babies good endings. You were amazing in your twists and keeping me all keyed up while reading – I enjoy anxiety when it doesn’t come from me, lol.

A House of Rage and Sorrow (The Celestial Trilogy, #2)Thanks for being as awesome as your prequel and quite as inspiring. Thanks for being such an emotionally heavy and fulfilling book. Truly it was a honor to read you! Thanks for inspiring me to art.

In an Absent Dream (Wayward Children, #4)Thanks for breaking my heart that way. Thanks for containing in yourself the complicated longing of a place that you can’t be at, but where you fit so well. Thanks for showing that cold logic doesn’t always mean there is no place for warmth.

This is How You Lose the Time WarThanks for giving me an intense romance, without veering into toxic territory. Thanks for dreaming big expanses, so I could also dream along with you. And you were so wonderfully unique in your composition, you are one of the best books I read this year, even in your small package.

The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 2Thanks for entertaining me so well – I was laughing non-stop while reading you.

The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War, #2)And finally, thanks for being this complicated exploration of war and magic, and grief and trauma. Reading you was hard at times, but I can’t deny the power you had, and how you brought forth difficult conversations.

What are you thankful for this year?

  1. It’s so fun to read your thoughts on these books in this way, like your talking to them. I really like your take on the topic! I’m definitely thankful to a bunch of books I read this year 😁
