Book Blogger Hop: March 6-12

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop was created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and is currently hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s question is:

When did you first know you’re truly a bookworm? Did you lose sleep over a novel?

Ruthsic@ruthsic

As far back as I remember, I have always been a bookworm. As a small child, I had these sets of illustrated fairytales that I would read over and over again, and later when I a bit older than that, the few books my mom kept (one I remember being Oliver Twist an another a biography of Gandhi). I also read a lot of non-fiction books, like atlases (I would pore over them for hours), and a book about Australian bird species (I would also sketch out the birds from the book for practice!) In my teens, I started reading YA proper when a friend suggested me a book that her friend liked (yep, that was Twilight) and the obsession exploded, lol. And yes, even then I would lose sleep over novels regularly, much to the consternation of my mother.

I don’t believe I knew that I was truly a bookworm until a classmate of mine had harassed me constantly about it. It was one of the bullies who used to torment me on a daily basis, back in middle school. He saw that I was reading a book, and a chunky length one at that and asked me how I could stomach such a novel. It was then that I answered back that I enjoy reading and from that point onwards I knew I was a bookworm. Man, I do not regret anything!
