My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A romantic retelling of a classic fairy tale about a beautiful herbalist and a lovestruck prince.

Shirayuki is an herbalist famous for her naturally bright-red hair, and the prince of Tanbarun wants her all to himself! Unwilling to become the prince’s possession, she seeks shelter in the woods of the neighboring kingdom, where she gains an unlikely ally—the prince of that kingdom! He rescues her from her plight, and thus begins the love story between a lovestruck prince and an unusual herbalist.

After putting an end to the disease that was ravaging Lilias, Shirayuki returns home with Zen and the others. But on their next day off, they embark on a new adventure—a date! Meanwhile, Mitsuhide is furious to learn that Kiki’s been keeping a life-altering secret from him!

Crisis averted and now it is time for the sweetness to come back pouring in! While they wrap up things in Lyrias, they all get to rest a bit – it was so cute to see Ryuu especially be a child for a while with Kirito. Shidan needs to start making palace visits and bring his nephew along! Zen and Shirayuki also have a sweet moment stargazing (very smooth, Zen, very smooth). After they get back, we have a long-awaited date between Shirayuki and Zen, as they walk around the castle town, shop for souvenirs together etc. Once again, the outfit design is beautiful and cute! And their romantic outing was so fluffy and sweet OMG

The latter part of the book concerns Kiki and her backstory. When she reveals to MItsuhide that she will be leaving the castle next year, he is upset at not knowing about it. So then we go back to 5 years ago, when Kiki first joins Zen’s side, and how that came about to be. Mitsuhide mistaking her for a boy at first is so in character OMG; really, he was in Zen-only mode huh. Kiki is always badass but seing her duelling a spurned suitor was high levels of cool. And then the three of them coming together, and the Kiki and Mitsuhide in the present reminiscing about that time was so heartwarming! Still, looking at Mitsuhide to realize his feelings for her at any moment now.
