Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl, wherein each week bloggers list out their Top Ten.
The topic this week was actually “Books that Give Off Summer Vibes (or winter if you live in the southern hemisphere)” but I hate summer, and though I live in the subtropics in the Northern hemisphere, my heart is in winter.
In fact during summer I am like: *middle finger to the sun* so I thought I’ll just do a winter vibe book list.
The Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos
It has winter in its name + it is actually set in a polar cap sort of place. Its an extreme sort of winter vibe, but I am too harassed by the summer heat right now to be objective about it.
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman
I don’t remember the season it is set in, but the creepy mist in the forest puts this squarely in winter vibe territory
Contagion by Erin Bowman
There’s something about empty planets that just evokes winter. Maybe because space is usually so cold, that you are more likely to encounter an icy planet than a hot one? Anyway, winter vibes!
The Light Between Worlds by Laura Weymouth
The tone of the book definitely tends towards winter.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
This cover has a winter pallete, plus there’s a winter king, and it has an Eastern European setting, so wholly winter vibes.
Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan
Winter palette cover, takes place in a winter setting, plus there’s gothic feels – of course it has winter vibes
Deathless by Catherynne M Valente
So. Much. Winter. Vibes.
The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julie Ember
Winter palette cover + takes place in an icy region
The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
Something about the eerie tone of the book gives me walking in the forest during winter vibes.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James
Space is cold and empty. Winter vibes.
Which books give you summer/winter vibes?
I love your list!! it’s fall, just about to start the winter, where I live, so it’s perfect. Many of your list I’m dying to read 😍✨👏🏻
I’ve heard good things about Contagion! If it’s not too personal to ask, do you have summer depression? I’m asking because I have winter depression and describe my feelings about it in much the same way you talk about summer.
My TTT .
If I do, I don’t know. I just despise the heat because it makes me lethargic.
Loved Spinning Silver and it is a great choice as a winter book!
I’m like you, definitely more of a winter girl, though I do enjoy reading outside in the summer! The Devouring Gray is on my TBR and I’m really looking forward to reading it. I would also definitely agree that The Hazel Wood gives off wintery vibes.

Great list. You are second person who did it about winter reads. Hazel Woods definitely has that winter vibes.

Great list! I also prefer winter over summer ahha! Although I do like to sit out in the sun once in a while!
My post!
Love your list! I’m a fall girl – I hate most other seasons hahaha Love your list! Contagion is a great on for this list and I totally agree with your reasons.
I love all the blue-ness of your picks. I was so busy reading last month that I forgot all about T10T lol 😀
These covers do make me think winter.
Love these covers.
