ARC Review: I Left The House Today! by Cassandra Calin

I Left The House Today!I Left The House Today! by Cassandra Calin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cassandra Calin’s ability to document the hilarity of relatable everyday events in a series of webcomics has generated a huge following on social media. This beautifully illustrated compendium of first-person comics about the trials of the single life, school, stress, junk food, shaving, and maintaining a healthy self-image. Cassandra Calin’s comics frequently highlight the humorous gap between expectations and reality, especially when it comes to appearance and how much she can accomplish in one day.

I wasn’t exactly hardcore following Cassandra Calin’s comics, but I had seen a few and found them hilarious. This book is a collection of her comics, which is perfect for someone like me, who wants to find them easily in one convenient place. The comics are arranged a bit chronologically, as in arranged by the ones that point to certain events like Halloween, Christmas, New Years’, Valentine’s etc, but most of them are applicable year round. There are comics about being cursed with hair that never quite gives you the results you want, be it bangs, or buns; there are comics about menstruation; there are comics about college student life, and then adult life – certainly the overall tone is how awkward you can be at adulting as a 20-something. It’s relatable, hilarious and sure to keep you entertained!

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from Andrews McMeel Publishing, via Edelweiss.
