Shouting from the Shelftops #22

Shouting from the Shelftops is a bimonthly(-ish) feature to gush over book news that come to my attention, to celebrate good news amidst whatever the year is delivering to you. The basic mood for these posts is just Enthusiastic Screaming.

Two new anthologies, a book series and a new novel for me to be excited about!

Concrete RoseAngie Thomas has a new book coming out!

Sort of like a prequel to The Hate U Give, the book, called Concrete Rose is about Starr’s father, and is set when he is 17 years old! It is about him trying to go straight and leave his gang when he finds out he is father. It promises to be a searing and poignant exploration of Black boyhood and manhood

We’ll have to wait until Jan 2021 for it, though.

Cover Love!

  • The finale in The Poppy War series by R F Kuang, The Burning God has a matching ink wash painting cover, with our murder baby Rin on a direct attack. After what happened at the end of The Dragon Republic, one particular better watch out!

The Burning God (The Poppy War, #3)

A YA fairytale retelling series!

Okay, so Julie C Dao and the other authors had been hinting and teasing for weeks, and finally she revealed it! Disney-Hyperion is making a YA fairytale retelling series, with her (Broken Wish), Dhonielle Clayton (Shattered Midnight), J C Cervantes (Fractured Path) and L L McKinney (Splintered Magic)! Having read two of these authors’ retelling novels, I cannot tell you how excited I am to see more from them! It is a “multi-generational YA fairy tale series centering on an intricate family curse—and a magical mirror” and each author is writing in a different era, from 1800s Germany to 2000s New York! With their schedule, the final book will be published in January 2023, though!

Brave New Girls: Tales of Girls Who Tech and TinkerA girls in STEM anthology!

Mary Fan and Paige Daniels are editing an anthology about girls in STEM, and it has a cover!!!! It is called Brave New Girls: Tales of Girls who Tech and Tinker!

Aside from Mary Fan, I don’t recognize the other authors on the list, but as a girl in STEM myself, I am excited!

A Latinx SFF anthology!

Zoraida Cordova and many other Latinx authors are coming together to write an anthology, Reclaim the Stars with stories about their “diaspora through the lens of SFF”!! The sad thing is, we’ll have to wait until fall 2022 for it! 😦

Which news made you scream?!
