ARC Review: The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 3 by Kousuke Oono

The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 3The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 3 by Kousuke Oono
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s a day in the life of your average househusband—if your average househusband is the legendary yakuza “the Immortal Dragon”!

A former yakuza legend leaves it all behind to become your everyday househusband. But it’s not easy to walk away from the gangster life, and what should be mundane household tasks are anything but!

The Immortal Dragon, once the fiercest member of the yakuza, is now a married man devoted to supporting his loving wife—as a househusband! But when the gangster-turned-homemaker needs to make some quick cash to buy her a present, he turns to the only skills he knows…and gets his first part-time job! The cozy yakuza comedy continues!

Once again, Gokushufudou brings all the laughs and gags, but also evokes a lot of ‘awww’. Miku gets more of an appearance in this volume, and honestly this couple is goals! First, they have a whole dramatic thing about killing a cockroach (these two are so precious good god!), and then when they go to shopping together, Tatsu volunteers for a fan event for her show, so that she wouldn’t feel so awkward about her enthusiasm. Also, during the fan event which has a show scene playing out in skit, he instead intervenes and mediates a meeting between the heroes and villains of the show in yakuza fashion! We also have them doing surprises for each other, like when Tatsu gets a part-time job to make some extra cash (where he elegantly impresses the gangsters with his skills), or like when Miku ropes Masa into helping her organize a birthday cake and party for Tatsu, with hilarious consequences as neither or them are as skilled in the kitchen like Tatsu. He also encounters some figures from his past, like the wife of a mob moss, who is working at the supermarket to support her people, and his own former boss coming to meet him, where Tatsu impresses him by dishing up a meal that the boss’ dog loves to eat. This series is a hoot and a delight, and comes highly recommended for its gags!
