Audiobook Review: The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee

The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky (Montague Siblings, #1.5)The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this funny and frothy novella that picks up where the New York Times bestselling The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue leaves off, freshly minted couple Monty and Percy fumble through their first time together.

Monty’s epic grand tour may be over, but now that he and Percy are finally a couple, he realizes there is something more nerve-wracking than being chased across Europe: getting together with the person you love.

Will the romantic allure of Santorini make his first time with Percy magical, or will all the anticipation and build-up completely spoil the mood?

Warnings: mentions of parental abuse, homophobia

So this novella takes place between book 1 and book 2, when Monty, Percy and Felicity are with the crew, chilling out in Santorini and thinking of next moves. Monty and Percy are in love, and have yet to have sex for the first time with each other, so Monty is obviously freaking out. Firstly, its Percy who he has been in love with for Quite a While, and the pressure to get it right gets to him, which means there are a lot of first-time shenanigans. Felicity wingmans her brother by helping him set the mood aka decorating their rooms and getting the crew out of the house, but Monty gets even more nervous. He still has his unresolved issues about his sexuality, but he gains a father-like figure who gives him parental validation. There’s also a lot about him gushing about how awesome Percy is, which, you know, hella valid. It has a lot of humor, a lot of cuteness, some heartfelt conversations and is an enjoyable read! Also, the audiobook narration perfectly nails Monty’s voice!

Is it diverse? bisexual main character; PoC love interest with chronic illness; aroace secondary character
