Another week, another wrap-up! This time some of my challenges aren’t complete *hangs head in shame* and I am not continuing with some for next year.
You can see previous week’s wrap-up post here.
Cloak & Dagger Reading Challenge
Progress: 33/35 books
I was doing at Inspector level, and the range for that was 26-35 books. With 33 books, I have finished this challenge!
Will I do it again in 2020?
Yep! There are two more levels above Inspector, after all!
For newbies, the rules are as follows:
- You can read any book that is from the mystery/suspense/thriller/crime genres. Any sub-genres are welcome as long as they incorporate one of these genres.
- You don’t need a blog to participate but you do need a place to post your reviews to link up. (blog, Goodreads, Instagram, etc.)
- Make a goal post and link it back here with your goal for this challenge.
- Books need to at least 100 pages long. Please no short stories.
- Crossovers with other challenges are fine.
- The Challenge will run from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st. (Sign up ends March 15th)
I am aiming for Special Agent (36-55 books). Sign up and other details here.

Will I do it again in 2020?
Yep! I gotta read more new series!
This time it is being hosted on Goodreads as well as on blog – sign up here. Rules:
- The goal for the challenge is to complete series; it does not matter if you only have one book left or ten, the important thing is to finish them in 2020. Similarly, the amount of series you’re aiming to finish is not important; we’d like this challenge to be as chill as possible so as long as you try to read and complete more series, you’re already a winner!
- The challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st and you can join at any point. ARCs do count for the challenge, as well as books published in 2020. You can also include comic books and graphic novels. Again, the only rule is to complete the series in 2020.
- You just need to announce your intention to participate and share that with us so we can add you to the list of participants.
I will be aiming for 24 series again – 12 new series and 12 old series.
Space Time Reading Challenge
Progress: 18/20 books having space or time travel
The original challenge was for science fiction/time travel books, and along the way I was like lets make it a challenge and included only books that were either set in space or had some element of time travel. And I am almost there, with just two more books to go – I plan to read Emerald Green for it because it will also simultaneously finish up one series for me in the SeriesTF challenge. Still haven’t figured out what the last book will be. *nervous laughter*
Will I do it again in 2019?
Yep, I want to do it again!
In case you want to know about it and join, here’s the rules:
- You can read any book that is from the science fiction/time-travel genres. Any sub-genres are welcome as long as they incorporate one of these genres.
- You don’t need a blog to participate but you do need a place to post your reviews (even one-liners) to link up. (blog, Goodreads, booklikes, LibraryThing, etc.)
- Make a goal post and link it back here with your goal for this challenge.
- Books need to be novellas or novels, please no short stories, although anthologies count if they meet the page guideline. (At least 100 pages +)
- Crossovers into other challenges are fine.
- The Challenge will be from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st. Sign-up closes 30th November 2020.
I am setting the goals at 40 books (To Infinity and Beyond), but will count all science fiction books this time.
2019 New Release challenge
Progress: 177/200 books
I went for a higher challenge in 2019 (200 books) than in 2018 (100 books), so I knew it was going to be a challenge, but at least in 2018, I had ended at 185 books! So while I won’t be able to read 23 new releases in 10 days (look I read fast, but not that fast), I am hoping I can at least cross last year’s number. So, marking this as unfinished.
Will I do it again in 2020?
Of course! Have to keep up with all the amazing new releases, after all!
The rules to join are:
- Books have to be released and reviewed in 2020.
- Other challenges can be used as well, if you are participating in the Netgalley / Edelweiss challenge or in the COYER challenge, books can count towards more than one challenge, as long as the ones you use for the 2020 New Release Reading Challenge qualify to the other rules.
- The minimum length for a book to qualify is 100 pages, it can be in any format though, physical, e-book, ARC or audiobook.
- The New Release Challenge is open from January 1st through December 31st 2020, and sign-ups are open until September 1st 2020.
- You don’t have to be a blogger to participate, you can link to your review on Goodreads or Booklikes instead – so don’t be shy!
Like in 2019, I am aiming for New Release Obsessed (200+ books).
A to Z Reading Challenge
Progress: 23/26 books
Another unfinished one. I realized much too late that I don’t have any ‘X’ book on my list. AND I have yet to read a Y and Z book.
X Y Z
Will I do it again in 2020?
Without an X book, it will never be complete, so I am not doing this for 2020.
2019 Debut Author challenge
Progress: 21/24 debuts of 2019
There wasn’t anyone hosting the challenge (that I knew of), so I was like well, I’ll just read 24 debuts on my own, I guess. I came close, with 21 now, so it is unfinished as of now, but since this overlaps with New Releases, I think I can make it to 3 more books by the year’s end.
(Details about which retellings each of these books are, are on the main challenge page.
Will I do it again in 2019?
Again, doesn’t seem to be anyone hosting it, so I guess, yes, I might just read 24 debuts by myself again this year.
You are welcome to join in, of course – any MG/YA/Adult debut will count! #2020DebutAuthor anyone?
And so, that’s all for this week! Next week, I will have wrap-ups and sign-ups (hopefully) for some more of the year-long challenges.
WOW! You read a ton! I want to try and finish series that I’ve started next year because I feel like I have started SO many different series and finished like… 5 of them lol
She always does amazingly, doesn’t she?
I agree with what you say about series, which is one of the reasons why I created the challenge; we sometimes forget to finish them, especially if they’re ‘old’ ones. If you do join, I hope you have a lot of fun and manage to finish a lot 🙂
Yay I was waiting for this post since I saw that last week’s was only part 1.
First of all, for our challenge you did amazing! I remember you wanting to finish 12 and 12 but I think that even though you wanted to finish more new series, old series are also very important because sometimes we just leave them for the newer ones, so it’s nice that you made such progress with both.
I like how you’ve also added manga and comic books to your challenges.
I was thinking of joining the A to Z challenge for 2020 but, as you said, I have no idea where to find those W, X, Y and Z titles. I want to do more challenges but I do not want them to be impossible either.
I like your Debut Author idea! I have no idea which debuts are coming out next year, I am always unaware of these things, btu it’s such a cool idea that it surprises me it’s not a thing already. Make it a thing!
Thanks! 😊
As for the debut author challenge it was hosted until 2018 by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl (she’s also the current host for the TTT) but then there was nothing this year. I might ask her if I could revive it but the thing is hosting a reading challenge like that? Dunno if I should 😅
Why not? I know a lot of people on Twitter are always posting about debut authors and wanting to read more debuts, so I think a lot of people would be excited with the idea.
Looks like you read some great books this year. I’m glad you’ll be joining the Cloak and Dagger challenge again this year.
