On the Pod this week #50

Fabulas Audio is a weekly wrap post for podcasts I listen to. It is a complement to the ongoing Podcast rec posts, with the difference that these are much more spoilery!

I caught up with The Magnus Archives, and started on The Amelia Project.

“The Amelia Project is a secret agency that fakes its clients’ deaths, then lets them reappear with a brand new identity! A black comedy full of secrets, twists… and cocoa.”

Episode 1 – 11 (Season 1)

With so much horror in the past couple of weeks, I thought to start with a comedy podcast. And I like it – it is a bit absurd like WTNV, with a dash of Victoriocity, has some continuity and some interesting ways to do the episodes. The unnamed Interviewer takes cases on the basis of how challenging and interesting it would be to fake a person’s death, but he himself is so quirky, I am wondering how he got to such a serious position. Overall, not my top favorites for now, but still enough to keep me going onto the next season.

MAG 102 – 160 (Season 3B + Season 4)

I CAUGHT UP WITH THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES!!! Whoo, what a ride! It took over my life so completely I left reading books for a while, because I want to get further ASAP. Of course, now that season 5 is not coming until April, I am regretting it (just a little). The development of the storylines, and connecting all of those statements was wonderful – never have I come across a horror anthology that is so unique; you won’t even find many inspirations from existing legends, except for the presence of vampires and even they are such a minor plot point for another kind of creature. Which means, it takes every unpredictable turn possible. Like, there was this one episode that Jon needed something to anchor him back to his life, and you would think it would be something like a loved one, but then this Archivist goes pretty literal with it (ouch). Season 4 finale was pretty awesome – giving us some fluff before stabbing us through the heart, so good times, you know.
