Shouting from the Shelftops is a bimonthly(-ish) feature to gush over book news that come to my attention, to celebrate good news amidst whatever the year is delivering to you. The basic mood for these posts is just Enthusiastic Screaming™.
Could anyone miss this amazing news that dropped recently:
The Shadow & Bone cast was announced!
Something that had me and book Twitter screaming for days was the announcement of the cast of Shadow and Bone, the Netflix adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels. While most of us were hella excited to see an Asian Alina, and the casting for Inej, nearly everyone was delighted at the casting of Ben Barnes as The Darkling. Twitter was just 48 hours of thirst tweets about him, because do you even know how many fancasts he has been a part of? AND HE GETS TO BE THE DARKLING NOW! People were converted by this announcement! 😀
Oh, and another delightful thing that came out of this news was Jessie Mei Li’s father, Art Li’s tweets! All of us in the fandom could never compete with his enthusiasm about his daughter. Truly! (His name is literally appended with ‘Stan Alina’ OMG)
There’s going to be An Ember in the Ashes graphic novels?!
Boom! Studios are coming out with a graphic novel set in the An Ember in the Ashes series, with the prequel story being written by Sabaa Tahir, and the first one (in this prequel trilogy), A Thief Among the Trees is about Elias’ and Helene’s student life. I haven’t read the whole series but this just jump-started my desire to do so pretty soon! Also, I love Boom! Studios aesthetic and the cover already promises a vibrant art style, so what I am saying is – I am hella excited!
All the Cover Love OMG!
This was a time of some truly glorious cover reveals – like
- the one for Sara Holland’s new series Havenfall (the tweet also links to an excerpt),
- the sequel to Kalyn Josephson’s The Storm Crow, The Crow Rider(those gauntlets and that armor are so amazing details btw!!!),
- the sequel to Swati Teerdhala’s The Tiger at Midnight, The Archer at Dawn,
- the showstopping cover for Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar, and
- the big surprise, the cover for the sequel to Renee Ahdieh’s The Beautiful, The Damned, released a day prior to the first book’s release! (That’s one way to get people buzzing about a book LOL)
- the cover for My Calamity Jane, the third book in the Lady Janies trilogy by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows.
I felt blessed and fed and watered by these cover reveals, I tell you!
There’s going to be a new Laura Lam novel!
Laura Lam has written a feminist space voyage thriller, Goldilocks, about an all-woman team heading to a planet that may be suitable for human habitation, and their mission may be in danger from someone on board, which releases in April next year. Also, and this is the part I am quite excited about – it has already been optioned for a film adaptation! Heck yeah, I want more of this!
Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House is also getting an adaptation!
It was definitely a week of screaming happily at the heavens for Bardugo fans, because her newly released adult dark academia fantasy, Ninth House, is also getting an adaptation, from Amazon Studios. I haven’t read the book yet, but come on, dark anything is my thing, so I am HYPED!
Aurora Rising adaptation!!
Okay maybe it is premature excitement because I (still) haven’t read the book, but I am happy nevertheless. This was one of the books I was eagerly looking forward to this year, and hearing it might have an adaptation just makes me very happy?!
Let it Snow adaptation!
Add another one to the ‘didn’t read the book but still excited for the adaptation’ but this one, I truly intended to read many times (oddly enough, every time has been December) and yet failed to do so. I am so excited to see Liv Hewson (I love her in Santa Clarita Diet), especially! Also from the poster, it does hint at queer couples, so I AM SO INTO IT.
Which news made you scream?!
