Review: The Moth & the Flame

The Moth & the Flame
The Moth & the Flame by Renee Ahdieh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Since this is the first book I am reading in TWATD series, I honestly have no idea about the world and this book didn’t clarify much. It revolves around the handmaiden, Despina and her romance with the captain of the guard. Despite knowing his rakish nature, she strikes up a banter between them, that ultimately results in love. The first half is playful and light, hinting at a darker past of Despina, while the second goes dark, with the death of the calipha, and the new deaths of the ones replacing her. I guess that part ties in with the main book, and I’m interested in what role Despina plays in the main story. This book has me intrigued!
