February Wrap-Up

This year is going by so fast; we are already in February! Been a busy month for me work-wise (I had to give up reading on some days so that I could get the quality sleep I needed to keep going daily) but I think I found a new balance. On weekdays, I try to get as much sleep as possible and read only if I left the lab earlier that day, and keep the major reading for the weekend. Enough about my eternal quest to find enough time to read, tho! Let’s recap the month –

I read 23 books this month – 21 full-length novels, one novella (as an audiobook) and one graphic novel, bringing up the total read to 51, so far. A month ahead on that challenge, I am guessing.

City of Legends (City of Legends Series #1) The Valiant (City of Legends #2) Empire Rising (City of Legends Series #3) The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) Reign of Shadows Assassin's Heart (Assassin's Heart, #1) In Place of Never Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) A Wicked Thing (A Wicked Thing, #1) Kingdom of Ashes (A Wicked Thing, #2) Take The Fall The New Hunger: A Warm Bodies Novella The Word for Yes Beware the Wild (Beware the Wild, #1) The Crown's Game (The Crown's Game, #1) Behold the Bones (Beware the Wild, #2) A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1) Seven Black Diamonds (Untitled, #1) Fate/Zero Volume 1 The Girl Who Fell Holding Court The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever You Were Here

Onto blogger challenges,

I finally read one book for the #RockMyTBR challenge – The New Hunger by Isaac Marion, which is the prequel novella to Warm Bodies, and has a good narrator. Since I’ll be participating in the March TBR read-a-thon, let’s hope I catch up here.
Progress: 1/26

12 more books read for the Fantasy challenge, bringing the total to 28. Recommnded are

The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) Seven Black Diamonds (Untitled, #1) The Crown's Game (The Crown's Game, #1) A Wicked Thing (A Wicked Thing, #1) Reign of Shadows
Progress: 28/100

For Backlist challenge, I read 4 books that were at least a year old –Beware the Wild, City of Legends, The ValiantThe New Hunger. A Wicked Thing came close but was 10 days short of being a year old.
Progress: 8/52

No LGBTQIA-themed books read this month. 😦
Progress: 4/6

Since this is a point-based challenge, I’ll break it down
A Wicked Thing #2 – Kingdom of Ashes (2 pt)
Warm Bodies #1.5 – The New Hunger (1 pt)
Beware The Wild #2 – Behold the Bones (2 pt)

Progress: 25/51 points

Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) The New Hunger: A Warm Bodies Novella

Bluescreen, I would recommend for its futuristic world setting. The New Hunger gives a brief backstory of the main characters of Warm Bodies.
Progress: 4/11

The New Hunger: A Warm Bodies Novella Beware the Wild (Beware the Wild, #1) Behold the Bones (Beware the Wild, #2)

Beware the Wild and Behold the Bones had a nice southern swamp setting but the pacing was sooooo slow.
Progress: 4/11

Anything before 2016, which makes it 5 books read. (same as Backlist, but includes A Wicked Thing)
Progress: 10/100

Out of the 23 books read this month, 22 were galleys. That Netgalley ratio is slowly rising but I think I won’t reach my 80% goal even by the end of this year.
Progress: 46/100

The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) Reign of Shadows Bluescreen (Mirador, #1) Seven Black Diamonds (Untitled, #1)

The Girl from Everywhere and Seven Black Diamonds have POC protagonists and underlying racism themes, while Reign of Shadows and Bluescreen have differently abled ones.
Progress: 11/26

In Place of Never Take The Fall The Word for Yes A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1) The Girl Who Fell The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever You Were Here

I would recommend A Study in Charlotte because, hello? Sherlock retelling with female lead? And The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever because it is so hilarious. For a serious one, The Girl who Fell, which deals with abuse in relationship.

Progress: 14/21

Reign of Shadows A Wicked Thing (A Wicked Thing, #1) Kingdom of Ashes (A Wicked Thing, #2) A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes, #1)

Reign of Shadows bears a slight resemblance to Rapunzel in the start, while A Wicked Thing and Kingdom of Ashes is like an after-the-end version of Sleeping Beauty; A Study in Charlotte is a modern Sherlock retelling.

Progress: 10/26
Earned the Evil Queen (10 books) badges.
Enchanted Muira

City of Legends series by Cheyanne Young

City of Legends (City of Le... The Valiant (City of Legend... Empire Rising (City of Lege...

all read in February. Kind of meh!

Progress: 2/12 series

With the books of the City of Legends series, A Wicked Thing series, Beware the Wild series, the total is 3 series read till the most recent book.

Progress: 6/7 (Expert series reader)
Achieved: Experienced (upto 8 series)

GRAPHIC NO ICONS

The Book Nympho

The New Hunger: A Warm Bodies Novella

Progress: 5/15 audiobooks

That’s been all for my February. Nothing else exciting happened – I was mostly holed up in my reading cave on the weekends, which actually made for some great reading time, but zero time for chores.
