The plot thickens in this second volume, with the Quinx squad and Suzuya (that psychopath is a leader now?) Squad chasing down leads for a ghoul named Nutcracker (as in, she destroys the testicles of her male victims) who could be part of a human trafficking ring that is tied to the ghoul restaurants. It seems Madam A still has a thriving gourmet human meat business, with Uta (now) as an auctioneer? Lot of allegiances seem to have shifted in the past two years, with Hinami now working with Aogiri, Touka once again a waitress at a coffee shop called :Re (I see what you did there!) along with Renji, and Takizawa now a one-eyed ghoul. Also, there seems to be a subplot with the Aogiri aware of the CCG’s plans, but how that is not yet known. This volume also focuses on Tooru, who was revealed to be a transgender male in the last volume. It seems he doesn’t like the attention he gets as a female, so he started dressing as a male. There are also signs of bullying in the past, and I am interested in how this character develops. He is kind of like Kaneki was at the start, and would be an interesting juxtaposition to Sasaki. Overall, this is shaping to be an interesting series, with each volume seeming to be centered around a case, while there are other arcs moving along in tandem. Hats off to the complexity in storytelling!
