Review: 愚者のエンドロール (Hyouka #2)

愚者のエンドロール by Yonezawa Honobu
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The End Credit of Fools, has a more mysterious storyline within it than Hyouka. The characters are now preparing for the Cultural Festival and compiling their anthology. While they are enjoying their leisure days, another opportunity comes knocking in the form of a class doing an indie mystery movie. Their scriptwriter fell ill and leaving the movie half-written. They now require someone to solve the mystery for them in time for the Fest. Naturally, Eru-chan is curious and of course she drags Oreki, the helpless fellow into it. But sometimes the mystery is the intention of people themselves.

The book was enjoyable and with the addition of the ‘Empress’, we get to realise how easily Oreki is pushed around by the women in his life. Satoshi’s nature becomes a bit more apparent – that his cheerfulness hides his sadness within. Eru is as curious as ever but who knew she was such a light-weight! Mayaka has plenty of perception and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. These four friends are getting closer and their bond is growing – they are becoming a team. It’s true that Oreki wouldn’t be as good as deduction without them – their input is invaluable.
